Cinematic version of the myth of Pygmalion , inspired by the homonymous play by the Irish writer GB Shaw (1856-1950). On a rainy night in 1912, the eccentric and snob linguist Henry Higgins meets Eliza Doolittle , a ragged and ordinary violet seller. The vulgar language of the florist arouses her interest so much that she makes a risky bet with her friend Colonel Pickering : she promises to teach her to speak English correctly and to make her go through a lady of high society within six months.
