"From New MOMA to Reina Sofía", by José Mª Lafuente
José María Lafuente Llano is an entrepreneur, collector and editor. He is in charge of the management of the Lafuente Group (a company created in 1942 by his father, Agustín Lafuente), which currently has five dairy factories in Cantabria, Asturias, Jumilla (Murcia) and Italy, consolidating itself as one of the great Spanish groups of the sector.
In 2002 he founded the Lafuente Archive , one of the most important private documentary funds around Vanguard and Artistic Modernity in Europe.
In 2009, he promoted the publishing label La Bahía, where more than thirty books and catalogs have come to light, many thematically related to the archives' own documentary collections.
He is the author of the book "Pablo Beltrán de Heredia. The shadow recovered" (Ediciones La Bahía, 2009) and literary editor of the volume "Julio Maruri-Pablo Beltrán de Heredia", correspondence 1950-2005 (Ediciones La Bahía, 2009).
For his work he has received, among others, the 2016 Art and Patronage Award from La Caixa, the Best Business Entrepreneur Award 2016 in the Business Success Awards in Cantabria for Economic News, the Montblanc Culture Award 2018, the XXI Honor Award Porticada Square shared with the Santander City Council and the Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum (2019), and the CEOE-CEPYME Award of Cantabria for their outstanding contribution to society.
José María Lafuente is an Academic of Honor of the Royal Galician Academy of Fine Arts (2019).
